Founder Biography

Prior to offering the ASSP program, Ms. Margaret Wilson-Banks was a tenured Associate Professor of Nursing at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, Ohio. Professor Wilson-Banks has a Masters in Nursing (MSN) and is a RN and Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) within the State of Ohio. Professor Wilson-Banks was the coordinator of Pediatric Nursing and taught both theory and clinical pediatric nursing courses. She also taught allied health courses. She was the lead instructor of the award-winning course, Gen-1020, College Survival Strategies for Nursing Students. She has served as curriculum coordinator and academic unit leader (AUL) of the nursing program. She also developed the Home Health Nursing course in 1998. Professor Banks was one of the recipients of the Innovator of the Year Award for her role in working with the Healthy Neighborhood Project and the Challenger Award for her role in developing and teaching the Gen-1020 course.

There has been much interest from Nursing Organizations in the Academic Skills’ Course (College Survival Strategies for Nursing Students) that Professor Banks taught at Cuyahoga Community College.

In April 2002, Professor Banks and the other instructors conducted three sessions at the annual Ohio League for Nursing Workshop on how academic skills can be taught successfully. In May 2002, the League presented this material in three sessions at the Practical Nurse Instructors Institute.

The Academic Challenge Grant from the Ohio Board of Regents was awarded to Professor Banks to produce a video based on her Steps to Success Study Method.
